The Ups and Downs of the Life of a Private Investigator
We receive a lot of phone calls from people who want to either intern or are looking for a full-time job as a Private Investigator in Greenville, SC. Television has made the life of a P.I. seem so glamorous to the point of being almost surreal and that is not the case. Don’t get me wrong, this is our chosen profession and one that we would never give up but in looking back sometimes we wonder how we got here.
For example, a Private Investigator has no set schedule. There is no such thing as your typical 8:00 A.M. – 5:00 P.M. job where you go 5 days a week. You work when the work is there, and when it is not you wait for the phone to ring. When the work does come in it can be at any time – early morning, late night, middle of the night, etc. There are no days off, holidays or vacation when there is work to be done. Our favorite thing is when the phone rings.
This job can take you into dangerous situations and dangerous places. A background/training in law enforcement is extremely useful in knowing how to handle yourself. There are also a lot of awkward or uncomfortable situations where the background/training in law enforcement is helpful in how to deal with the situation.
A private investigation agency is expensive to run. You will have the usual business expenses of employees, insurance, gas, etc. but you will also have a lot of wear and tear on your vehicle, gas prices, etc. Due to the ups and downs of work load, there is no such thing as a dependable paycheck.
All that being said if this is your calling then there is nothing like the exhilaration of a new case and solving it. You have to stay current with new technology, be sympathetic and attentive to your clients and really love what you do. There is nothing better and you get great stories along the way.
