Infidelity... Where Does It Begin?
Have you ever wondered how people meet? How does an innocent conversation grow into a full blown affair?
We receive a lot of questions concerning infidelity and how can it happen. Affairs are more common in marriage than divorces are. It is one of the most painful experiences that the spouse will ever be forced to endure and the questions of how, where and why arise.
Affairs usually begin with an attraction to someone that you know fairly well. This can be someone that you spend time with each week, such as a friend or co-worker. This person is new & different and they can fulfill a need that is not currently being met. A lot of the time the attraction starts as an emotional need – someone who is easy to talk to and someone to listen to them.
The three main places affairs begin are:
- The Workplace: A person usually spends more awake time at work than any other place. You get to know your work mates, sometimes intimately.
- The Gym: The gym is another place people meet and get to know one another. The average person works out at the same time each day and gradually gets to know the people and surroundings.
- Church: Yes, the place of worship. I know people don’t like to admit it but often it’s the extra-curricular activities at church that bring people together for all the wrong reasons.
When we take a new case I always ask the client if they suspect anyone. If the client answers no, then a series of questions are asked regarding the habitual activities of their spouse. Their work place, do they work out and where and when do they attend church and are there any other activities they are involved with on a daily or weekly basis. This helps lay the foundation to begin the infidelity investigation.
