Is Being a PI Just Like What You See on TV?

We get asked this question so many times and unfortunately the answer is no. Private Investigation is a business where our domestic clients are going through one of the most emotional times of their lives. Yes, in some cases there is drama but it is in smaller doses. You have to realize that the TV shows have to show all drama all of the time in order to get and keep their ratings. Our job is not to confront the suspected spouse and/or paramour. Our job is to watch, listen and document the events that happen so that we can present them to you in a format that you can use in court, if applicable.

The typical Private Investigator does not drive around in a big fancy vehicle that draws attention; wear flashy clothes and jewelry; or travel with a large entourage in tact as they do on TV. We have to be “normal” and blend in with other people in order to not draw attention to ourselves so that we can perform surveillance on a daily basis.

An experienced PI knows how to handle the drama and calm down the client when it occurs. Over the years there have even been death threats toward us because of what we do for a living but that is just part of the job. In the end experience pays off.
